At Orchard Park Primary School, all students participate in 1 hour of Physical Education each week with our specialist PE teachers. Our program focuses on developing confidence, coordination and physical literacy through engaging individual and group learning tasks. We emphasise our school values and provide a supportive, encouraging learning environment.
Students participate in activities and games designed to develop their fundamental motor skills (FMS). They also explore how physical activity supports their health and learn to cooperate in group situations, follow rules and practise fair play.
Students extend their motor skills, learn to collaborate effectively and prepare for team games and sports. They develop an understanding of the link between physical activity, health, fitness and positive wellbeing. Students explore summer and winter sports in preparation for Interschool Sport in Years 5 and 6.
Students engage in a variety of significant events throughout the year, including NAIDOC Week Traditional Indigenous Games, Olympics and Commonwealth Games themed activities, House Cross Country, Athletics Carnival and the much-loved Staff vs Year 6 basketball and footy matches.
Prep students participate in PMP, a movement-based program designed to build coordination, balance, locomotion, fitness and eye-tracking skills.
Students in Years 1–4 participate in an additional weekly 1-hour sport session focused on teamwork, fundamental skills and active participation.
Year 5 and 6 students represent Orchard Park Primary School in a range of team sports as part of our Interschool Sport program.
