School-wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) is a framework that unites school communities to cultivate positive, safe, and supportive learning cultures. SWPBS helps schools enhance social, emotional, behavioural, and academic outcomes for children and young people. At our school, students are regularly exposed to our core values and expectations: respect, responsibility, resilience and safety. Through our SWPBS program, we explicitly reteach and model positive behaviours using a positive behaviour matrix developed in collaboration with our students and displayed in each classroom to outline our expectations.
Students at OPPS are acknowledged for displaying expectations with "Spark Bucks." Students collect individual $1 Spark Bucks, which can be spent at the Spark Buck Shop to purchase experience-based rewards. Additionally, when students spend their individual Spark Bucks, they also earn house points. At the end of each term, the house with the most points enjoys a group celebration. Classes can also earn whole-class Spark Bucks, ranging from $10 to $50, which contribute toward a chosen class experience-based reward.
