Intervention at OPPS

At Orchard Park Primary School, our Intervention Program is designed to provide targeted, short-term support for students who need extra time and guidance to grasp key concepts in their learning.

Our Purpose

The goal of intervention at OPPS is to help students bridge learning gaps, ensuring that all students can keep pace with their classroom learning. We focus on building confidence, understanding and success by revisiting foundational skills in small, supportive groups.

We know that when students feel overwhelmed by fast-paced learning, it can impact both their progress and their confidence. Our intervention approach is structured to remove that pressure by delivering intensive, targeted teaching in short bursts, allowing students to reconnect with key ideas and re-engage positively with their learning.

How it works

Intervention groups are guided by current whole-school data and are reviewed regularly to ensure support remains timely and responsive.

  • Students are grouped based on specific learning needs, most commonly in areas such as Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Each cycle runs for three weeks, after which students may:
    • continue in the same group for further support,
    • exit the group if they have achieved the goal, or
    • move into a new group with a different focus area.
  • Groups are fluid and responsive to student growth, ensuring every student receives the right support at the right time.

At OPPS, our intervention model reflects our belief that every student can succeed with the right support. By addressing learning needs early and effectively, we aim to help every child thrive in their classroom environment.
