Performing Arts

What this looks like at our school

At Orchard Park Primary School, our Performing Arts program offers all students from Prep to Year 6 dynamic and engaging learning experiences across Music, Drama and Dance. Through weekly specialist lessons, students develop creativity, confidence and communication while building foundational skills in performance and self-expression. Lessons are hands-on, collaborative and inclusive, allowing every student to participate, explore and grow.

Purpose

Our Performing Arts curriculum is designed to foster students’ creative thinking, emotional literacy and teamwork.

Learning areas

Music

In Music, students explore rhythm, pitch, melody and composition using a variety of instruments including keyboards, drums, glockenspiels, guiros and other percussion instruments. They learn through singing, ensemble playing, movement and musical games.

Drama

In Drama, students engage in storytelling, improvisation, characterisation, role play and script work. The use of puppetry adds an exciting layer to learning, supporting expressive language and performance techniques. Small plays are rehearsed and presented to develop students’ drama skills.

Dance

In Dance, students experience multiple genres such as hip hop, jazz and contemporary movement. They learn choreography, interpret music through movement and develop expressive dance practices. Cultural dances are explored and students experience the multicultural area we live in through dance.
