BERRY STREET EDUCATION MODEL

Berry Street Educational Model

At Orchard Park Primary School, we are proud to implement the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM)—a research-based framework designed to support the academic and wellbeing needs of all students.

The Berry Street Education Model provides teachers with practical strategies to create safe, supportive, and engaging learning environments. It helps students build the self-regulation, resilience, and relational capacity needed for success in both school and life.

Why BSEM at Our School?

We believe that students learn best when they feel safe, connected, and confident. BSEM equips our educators with tools to respond to the needs of all learners—especially those who may struggle with emotional regulation or behaviour—while maintaining high expectations and a strong focus on learning.

Through consistent implementation of BSEM strategies across our school, we aim to:

  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
  • Strengthen relationships between students and staff
  • Improve engagement, attendance, and academic outcomes

The Berry Street Education Model aligns with our commitment to whole-school wellbeing and reflects our school values.

The Berry Street Domains:

The domains of the Berry Street Education Model correspond with developmental capacities that students need to be Ready to Learn. At OPPS, every student creates their own individual Ready to Learn scales and each class devises Ready to Learn strategies to support their social and emotional learning.

Domain 1: Body
Supporting students to be Ready to Learn through strategies that build self-regulation when learning.

Domain 2: Relationship
Harnessing strong student-teacher relationships to cultivate learning and wellbeing.

Domain 3: Stamina and Engagement
Maximising student engagement in learning and prioritising stamina for academic achievement.

Domain 4: Character
Identifying, nurturing and celebrating student and community strengths to ensure positive school cultures.
