Year 6 to Year 7 Transition

Moving from primary school to secondary school is an exciting milestone for students and their families. At Orchard Park Primary School, we work closely with families and secondary schools to support a smooth and positive transition from Year 6 to Year 7.

Throughout the year, families will receive information about the Year 6 to Year 7 placement process, secondary school open nights, transition activities and important dates to support decision-making and preparation for secondary school.

The Transition Process

The Year 6 to Year 7 transition process is managed in line with Department of Education timelines and guidelines. Families will be supported through each stage of the placement process, including:

receiving information about local secondary schools
attending school tours and open nights
completing the Year 6 to Year 7 placement form
submitting required documentation by the relevant due date
participating in secondary school transition activities later in the year

Families are encouraged to read all transition information carefully and contact the school office if they require support throughout the process.

Year 7 Application Form

Families are required to complete the Year 6 to Year 7 Placement Information Pack as part of the transition process.

This form must be completed and returned to the school by the required due date provided to families.

Choosing a Secondary School

Families are encouraged to begin exploring secondary school options early. This may include your designated neighbourhood government secondary school, a specialist program, or another setting that best meets your child’s needs.

Open nights, information sessions and school tours are valuable opportunities to learn more about each school’s programs, facilities, values and expectations.

We encourage families to visit school websites and attend open events to help make an informed decision about their child’s Year 7 placement.
